title

Mr. Berger’s Yarn Suit, yarn on fabric grid, 25x34in, 2018

statement

A business suit is a masculine trope, one based on authority and intimidation. Somewhat like Joseph Beuys’ Felt Suit, Mr. Berger’s Yarn Suit, usurps the business suit’s sense of no nonsense authority by rendering it in a soft, welcoming material. The latch hook method is craft and highly domestic, therefore suggesting the production of personhood and self-knowledge is found within the home. One can think of this yarn suit as a teddy bear instead of a grizzly bear.
